I MUSICI DE MONTRÉAL ON TOUR IN BRAZIL : the orchestra has been invited to perform at the Sintonias Canada-Brazil Jazz Fest as part of events celebrating Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary.

The I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra, and its artistic director Jean-Marie Zeitouni, are delighted to announce a mini Brazilian tour presented as part of the Sintonias Canada-Brazil Jazz Fest. The orchestra will be offering masterclasses and workshops to local music students culminating in concerts given in São Paulo (September 15 and 16) and Rio de Janeiro (September 17), all part of official events celebrating Canada’s sesquicentenial anniversary.

Three different programs will be offered during the concert tour. The first program, presented in São Paulo, reunites the musicians with legendary Brazilian composer, guitarist and pianist Egberto Gismonti, with whom they had performed with in Montreal in 2007 under the direction of the late Yuli Turovsky. This program will highlight various works by Gismonti, performed by him, and will feature musicians from the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP) who will accompany the I Musici orchestra . As part of the other two concerts, presented in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, I Musici will perform works by Respighi, Mozart, Tchaikovsky as well as Brazil’s Villa-Lobos and Canada’s André Prévost.

In addition to these concerts, Jean-Marie Zeitouni and I Musici’s musicians will be giving masterclasses and workshops to students from the Instituto de Artes de UNESP.
