I Musici de Montréal welcomes Jean-Michel Malouf as conductor in residence for its 2012-2013 season

The Orchestre de chambre I Musici de Montréal and its principal conductor and artistic director Jean-Marie-Zeitouni are pleased to announce that Jean-Michel Malouf has been appointed conductor in residence. The ensemble welcomes Malouf in the hope that this position will contribute significantly to his training and professional development.

Jean-Marie Zeitouni, once conductor in residence with the Violons du Roy at the outset of his career, credits the experience with allowing him to fully realize his potential as an artist, conductor, musical director and community leader. “This new stage in his career will help Jean, and not just from a professional development standpoint; it will also give him a first-hand look at the inner workings of an orchestra that brings in renowned musicians. Through this experience, I hope he’s able to find out where in the wide world of music he intends to fulfil his potential. It’s an immense pleasure to welcome Jean-Michel Malouf and his exceptional talent into the greater I Musici family.” — Jean-Marie Zeitouni

Integrated into all of the organization’s spheres of activity, the conductor in residence will be involved in artistic as well as administrative projects.

Jean-Michel Malouf is a graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he studied orchestra conducting, trombone and chamber music. He also holds an Artist Diploma from McGill University. In 2006, barely a year into his conducting studies at the Conservatoire de Montréal, he secured the position as artistic and musical director of the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Joliette, and he was named conductor designate of the Chœur de métal brass winds ensemble. In 2008, he was offered a position as artistic and musical director of the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Terrebonne and the Philharmonie jeunesse de Montréal on the strength of his musical qualities and natural leadership. And in May 2009, Mr. Malouf was invited to take over from the late Father Fernand Lyndsay as director of the renowned Chanteurs de la Place Bourget choir. In 2010, Jean-Michel Malouf was offered the position as artistic director of the Serenade Chamber Orchestra. In the last two years, he has also been invited to direct the Orchestre de chambre I Musici de Montréal, Les Violons du Roy, the Chorum ensemble, the Sinfonia de Lanaudière and the Scotia Festival of Music Orchestra.
