Lovestruck

Jean-Marie Zeitouni, conductor
Vadim Gluzman, violin

  • Chtchedrine / Shchedrin – Carmen-Suite for Strings and Percussion, after Bizet
  • Mahler – Symphony no. 5, Adagietto for strings and harp
  • Bernstein – Serenade for Violin, strings, harp and percussion, after Plato’s Symposium

A celebration of love! From the unbridled passion of Bizet’s Carmen recast by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, to the intense love of the sublime Adagietto from Mahler’s Fifth with its enveloping waves of sound, and the love by turns glorified, satirized, and pondered many times over by Plato in his Symposium – then boldly set to music by Leonard Bernstein. Vadim Gluzman’s Stradivari leads the way.
