To inaugurate his first season as artistic director of I Musici, Jean-Marie Zeitouni bids us to join him in a celebration of childhood: Ravel recreated the magical atmosphere of the Contes de Ma Mere l’Oye, while Mahler and Barber give voice to the children themselves. In a voice tinged with poetry, Barber’s child describes the atmosphere in front of his house in Knoxville on a summer’s eve, while the child in Mahler’s Symphony no. 4 casts an innocent gaze at everyday life in paradise. Helene Guilmette’s fresh and angelic voice suits this repertoire to a T.
