2017-2018 SEASON

Message from artistic director

Jean-Marie _Zeitouni02Dear friends, artistic explorers, and devoted music lovers; I am proud to present to you I Musici de Montréal’s 34th season, my sixth as artistic director of this incredible orchestra. In curating this new season, my aim was to consolidate our numerous initiatives of the past years. Deepening friendships and fostering cultural collaborations, promoting local talent as well as encouraging the creation of new works are – and will remain – at the heart of my vision for I Musici.

From the perspective of discovering established and emerging talents from today’s classical world stage, we welcome back our friend Christian Blackshaw, a sublime pianist. It’s in full confidence that I hand over the baton to two young colleagues: Alexander Prior and Maxim Rysanov, both in their Montreal debuts. Naturally, we won’t neglect talent from here: cellist Matt Haimovitz, flutist Jocelyne Roy, pianist Jeanne Amièle, and composer Julien Bilodeau will be joining us throughout the season.

For a third year running, I Musici will take part in the Arte Musica Foundation’s Bach complete cantata cycle, led this season by Andrew Megill, chorus master of the OSM. We will also renew our partnership with the Montreal Bach Festival in a concert featuring the German tenor Julian Prégardien and Montreal-based horn player Nadia Côté.

Finally, with the exception of our season opener at Maison symphonique, I Musici is very excited to focus the core of its artistic output, the I Grandi Concerti and I Concertini series, at Bourgie Hall, a gorgeous space we promise to explore and invite you to rediscover.
