From May 19 to 26, 2012, the musicians of the Orchestre de chambre I Musici de Montréal will fly to Mexico, where they are expected to take part in the Festival Cultural de Mayo. This will mark I Musici’s third international tour of the season: the ensemble was in Brazil in August 2011 and it recently completed a U.S. tour in March. Under the direction of conductor Richard Lee, I Musici will perform the Andante cantabile and Souvenir de Florence by P. I. Tchaikovsky, as well as Les tableaux dansant d’une exposition, a piece by Modest Moussorgsky arranged by Yuli Turovsky. The Moussorgsky piece will be accompanied by a projection created by Natacha Turovsky and Gaël Hollard.
Founded in 1997, the yearly Festival Cultural de Mayo allows artists from different cultures to distinguish themselves on the Mexican stage. Previous editions of the festival showcased artists from the United States, Japan, Germany and Spain. I Musici is one of some 20 Quebec companies and artists slated to perform at the FCM, including artists working in music, cinema, dance, the circus arts and the visual arts.
Music lovers will be able to follow I Musici’s Mexican tour on the orchestra’s Facebook page at facebook/IMusicideMontreal.
