Based in Montreal and founded in 2017 by soprano Marie Magistry and bass Martin Auclair, Meslanges Ensemble is a young, professional vocal ensemble with a variable geometry, whose core is composed of four to eight highly talented singers. Taking its name from the ancient French, Meslanges Ensemble interprets various musical styles with flexibility, even the most complex and demanding. The exceptional level of quality of their concerts, as well as the enthusiasm of critics, audiences and peers, has enabled them to collaborate quickly with renowned ensembles.
Meslanges Ensemble has no appointed conductor. The singers make their artistic decisions in a collegial manner. However, when it is necessary for the production of certain works, they form partnerships with existing ensembles by working jointly with their artistic directors. The ensemble is made up of experienced singers with perfectly matched voices. They mainly sing a cappella a part at a time, but sometimes increase their numbers according to the needs of the repertoire. All of them have significant professional experience as choristers, chamber musicians and soloists and regularly collaborate with prestigious international ensembles.
Since 2017, Meslanges Ensemble has produced several concerts including a program of a cappella French songs from the Renaissance and 20th century, programs of a cappella sacred music from different periods and Lieder for vocal quartet and piano four hands from the classical and romantic periods. They also produced a tour of Monteverdi’s Vespers in conjunction with the ensemble L’Harmonie des Saisons which was a huge success. This concert was his first collaboration with I Musici. Meslanges Ensemble is supported in its various projects by the Conseil des Arts et des lettres du Québec.
