20 Oct Artistic director’s note
Dear friends of I Musici de Montréal,
In this period of instability and uncertainty for all of us, which more than ever confirms the great importance and relevance of music (and art in general) in our lives, it gives us great pleasure to invite you to our 37th season, which will be lived under the sign of resilience and creativity.
From Baroque masterpieces to traditional Cuban music, Argentinean tango, classical and romantic music, and some of the most important works of the 20th and 21st centuries, we offer you, through six colorful and diverse events, a musical journey of great richness.
Now more than ever, it is important to bring local talent to the forefront. First of all, members of our immediate family, violinist Julie Triquet and double bassist Yanick Chênevert, but also long-time collaborators such as soprano Myriam Leblanc, mezzo-soprano Maude Brunet, guitarist David Jacques and bandoneonist Jonathan Goldman. This year, we are particularly pleased to begin a collaboration with the vocal ensemble Meslanges for a most enchanting Christmas concert.
Also, this season, four of today’s composers will be in the spotlight: Missy Mazzolli (USA), Kelly-Marie Murphy (Canada), Ana Sokolovic (Serbia-Canada) and Britta Byström (Sweden).
I will also have the honour of sharing the podium with two chefs of the new generation: Nicolas Ellis (Canada) and Cosette Justo Valdés (Cuba). Both have very different styles, but they share a contagious passion for music, a great ability to communicate this passion and an immense talent.
We look forward to having you with us on this beautiful journey.
