Baroque and Manding traditions are two worlds that developed independently, yet reveal striking resonances.

Even older than European music, this African oral tradition continues to resonate today thanks to artists such as Aboulaye Koné, artistic collaborator for this programme.

The musicians of I Musici invite you to discover this treasure of humanity alongside them in a joyful and welcoming concert.

Biography

Born in Côte d’Ivoire, Aboulaye Koné comes from a family of Griots (the musicians, historians and storytellers of West Africa). He learned music in Burkina Faso under Djeli Baba Kienou and, over the course of his career, has accompanied several African stars, including Les Go de Koteba, Adama Dramé and Kandia Kouyaté.

In Canada, he is regarded as an undisputed Mandingo musician. His ensemble Bolo Kan won the Syli d’Argent in 2008 and the Syli d’Or de la musique du monde in 2009. A grant recipient of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts, he saw his first album, Afo Gné, nominated for a JUNO Award in 2012 for World Music Album of the Year.
