The I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra has been a pillar of musical life in Quebec and internationally since its founding in 1983. The musicians, who now collectively assume artistic direction and perform without a conductor, offer interpretations and presentations of classical works that highlight their relevance and connections to today’s social challenges. They seek to rethink the concert experience and establish a real dialogue with Montreal communities through collaborative artistic partnerships.

The I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra puts its talent, versatility and creativity at the service of the community, with the aim of stimulating the performance, outreach and development of concert music.

Rooted in its community, I Musici de Montréal strives to enhance quality of life in the city by celebrating Montreal’s diversity and showcasing the artistic and cultural vitality that is unique to Quebec’s metropolis.

The orchestra’s mandate is to:

• To promote and stimulate the knowledge, development, dissemination and performance of music for chamber orchestra, without restricting itself to particular periods or styles.
• Maintain the highest standards of artistic excellence.
• Organize, prepare, produce and perform concerts and recitals, in self-presentation or co-production, in concert halls or via digital media.
• Contribute to the development of new audiences through educational programs, and to the training of new generations of musicians through events in residence, master classes and the integration of young professionals into the orchestra’s activities.
• Stimulate the creation and performance of works by emerging and established composers.
